Starbucks ‘No Smoking’ Campaign

Posted on

I am a coffee lover. I drink it everyday (without fail) and even when I was pregnant I got to taste it even for a few sips. Just like the hundreds of Filipinos who love coffee, Starbucks has been one of our favorites. Let me show you proof of my love for Starbucks.

Starbucks LOVE

So upon learning that there’s a smoking ban in Metro Manila in public places I was a bit curious and said to myself that smokers are still fortunate that they can smoke in coffee shops. I spoke too soon. Because after the smoking ban in public places was implemented, Starbucks (one of the leading coffee retail giants in the Philippines) announced their ‘no smoking’ policy. When this news broke online, my friends on Twitter had different reactions to it. I really didn’t bother to voice out mine because I thought it wasn’t a big deal, or is it?

According to this article from Yahoo! NewsPinoys on Twitter have different reactions to the said campaign of the famous coffee shop. This got me curious, so I did a poll on my Facebook asking what people think about Starbucks’ bold move on their customers not smoking on their premises. Majority voted that they support Starbucks in complying with the newly implemented law of the MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority).

Come to think of it, if I was really a smoker I would’ve thought otherwise. Given that people go to coffee shops so they can drink coffee and smoke cigarettes while reading a book, going online, watching their favorite series on their iPad or even just have a good talk with friends (which I can attest to). True enough, that’s how people hang out in coffee shops.

I’m very curious to check out the nearest Starbucks on June 27 and do one of the things I like to do best in a coffee shop: people watch. But this time around I think I’ll have to do a “store watch” observe the store if people would still  hang out and get their fix of coffee or choose the rival coffee shop which offers their customer the freedom to smoke their cigarettes without getting a warning ticket from the MMDA.

Speaking of warning, I stumbled upon this:

be warned!

Wow, six thousand (and counting) smokers were already warned in less than a month. You can’t blame them MMDA! It’s not easy for them as it is easy for you to give them warnings. It takes practice and constant reminder. So thank you for giving them warnings and please don’t forget to reenforce & remind them about this implementation.

So to smokers who patronize Starbucks, would you really switch coffee shops because of this coming implementation? I feel your sadness, dilemma or even your confusion. For now please enjoy the weekend & smoke your lungs out at your favorite Starbucks store ’cause come Monday (June 27) it’ll be smoke-free.

With the rain Falcon (storm) has brought over the week, I guess going to Starbucks (to enjoy a cup of hot choco or coffee) is one of the best things to do eh?

Happy weekend and please stay safe everyone! 🙂

Today’s Outfitey: Gray Wide Leg Jeans

Jeans are forever part of our wardrobe. It is a staple clothing that most of us rely on and I believe apart from our undergarments, it is one of the most used clothing. I am currently getting tired of all the skinny jeans and form-fitting, body hugging kind so I like to share with you all my new favorite kind of jeans: the wide legged jeans (but you already know that  based on my first wide leg pants post) *winks*.

Tip: If your jeans is too long then I suggest you wear heels so the manner of how you wear it won’t look lousy. 😉

jean gray! LOL

Black 3/4 top: Topshop

Gray wide leg jeans: R.A.F by Plains & Prints

Been hearing this 30 Day Song Challenge circling around Facebook and Twitter and recently have seen my Twitter peeps tweet about their participation to it. So now that I’ve discovered it, I wanna share this to all of you as well. Just like any other challenge this may seem pretty easy but when it’s time to start, your mind gets flooded with too many ideas that it actually becomes a challenge.

Like I said, it may look easy but I’ve been on this challenge for 3 weeks now and I’ve only done days 1 and 2. The good thing about this challenge unlike any other is that there’s no time frame as to when you need to start or finish each day. You can start, skip and finish it whenever you feel like doing so.

Will post my per day challenges next! 😉

Happy Father’s Day!

Posted on

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, papas, tatays, pops, erpats (and whatever else fathers are called) all over the world! It is not easy to be a dad and to have a responsibility to take care of a family. Just like motherhood, fatherhood isn’t learned overnight and it takes years (even a lifetime) to grasp not only the idea but the essence of it as well. This post is dedicated to the 3 men in my life who are all fathers. I thank them for the love, affection and time they’ve given to their kids and to their families, making them the 3 best fathers in the whole wide world.

My Daddy R with G.

Meet my dad. He doesn’t look like chinese (I know) and I think I look like him? 🙂 G fondly calls him “dalo” (which is short for daddylo or daddy lolo) Despite his being strict back when me and my sisters were kids, still he did the best he could in raising us well. He is what you can call “a man of few words” but when he speaks, everyone listens. He loves video games and have learned to use the computer and is now a great poker/cards player. I remember playing against him on our Family Computer’s Mike Tyson’s boxing game, Playstation’s Grand Turismo, and Red Alert installed on our PC. Thank you dad for telling me that I am strong enough to handle things on my own and for teaching me how to drive and do other “manly” stuff. I love you daddy! 😀

My Papa J w/ G.

Meet my FIL (father-in-law) Papa J, G fondly calls him Kokong (short for Angkong). Papa, as I call him is very sociable and loves to fix things. He would always volunteer to help me fix anything that needs fixing in our place. He also likes bringing G along with him whenever he has errands to run. Thank you Papa for bringing up my husband JG well and for being there for Gabbie 🙂 I love you Papa! 🙂

Now, here’s to the best Daddy in the whole world.

Meet G's dad, JG.

This is JG’s 2nd Father’s Day. He doesn’t make a big deal about such days like this but nonetheless we treated him as one of his special day. JG is not a good father to G rather he is a great father. From the moment he learned I was pregnant back then, he was extra meticulous and caring of me. Making sure he gives me everything I asked of him (especially my cravings) all for the benefit of me & my healthy pregnancy. I also remembered how hands on he was the moment G arrived. He would switch turns with me waking up in the middle of the night and would let me sleep through the mornings of weekends whenever I feel exhausted. Despite being busy with work, he still manages to find time to bond w/ G. Weekends (especially Saturdays) is always Gabbie Day. Thank you my dear husband for the effort and for being a good provider for me & G. We love you so much! 😀

So here’s a glimpse of what we prepared him on Father’s Day.

morning greeting

So we prepared: freshly brewed coffee, today’s morning paper and a Father’s Day card.

DIY Father's Day card

Been in search for a cute card for Father’s Day but I also wanted it to be somewhat suitable & personal. Thanks to Thirty Handmade Days for this free printable cute Father’s Day card. Perfect for my husband who likes to play PS3 a lot! G & I also gave JG a gift to go with the card but I will reveal it in another post soon. It’s something I & JG will do for the first time. *excited* (I know Mother’s Day was a month ago but still, I wanna experience “our gift” as well) LOL

Meanwhile, since it’s Sunday G attended Sunday school and got these for her dad.

G on Father's Day

Yes, I think as early as now that she is a daddy’s girl. How I figured it out? Let’s see: G waits for her dad to come home before she sleeps, she’d give him a hug or kiss whenever she sees her dad, she likes holding her dad’s hand while walking and she’s her dad’s number 1 fan when it comes to basketball. Just some of the things that makes her a daddy’s girl.

Happy Father's Day! 😀

Our parish also made a tribute to all the dads who attend church today and gave a token of appreciation.

Dad 😀

Again, Happy Father’s Day to all dads and father figures! 🙂

Mango Mid-Year Sale 2011

Posted on

Ladies! It’s the time of the year again where everything (well, almost) is on sale. June isn’t only  known for as the month of weddings and the start of classes here in the Philippines. But for the shopper in us, know that June is also the time wherein our pockets & wallets are in its thinnest & lightest form, thanks to the mid-season sales. And why I hate getting and receiving spam newsletters from various establishments, I am happy to say that I love getting invites (from my favorite stores of course) & knowing the latest happenings before everyone else does (or at least before the stocks run out).

So let me share with you what I received in the mail. (Sorry, I know this is kinda late since I got the mail last Wednesday but learned it’s on my spam folder :|)

you had me at 50% off!

Woot! woot! Mid-year sale from Mango on all of their stores started this week!

Mango is LOVE

I was able to check out Mango’s mid-year sale yesterday. There were so many good items on sale, too good that the moment I stepped in I asked for a bag & filled it up with all sorts of clothing and in less than 10 minutes I already needed a new bag to fill in. LOL There were also a few nice bags  priced for as low as P1,199 to P3,000+. But I promised my husband I won’t buy any bags this year (since I got a designer bag last Christmas) thus my itch for a Cambridge Satchel bag is still lingering and my placing an order for it is on hold. 😐

Nonetheless, the good news is that I am no longer an impulsive buyer. After the garage sale I had two days ago (which was a success by the way), I had enough moolah on hand BUT controlled myself and was able to buy only 1 pair of pants. The one style I’ve been eyeing on since early this year (regular retail price was way expensive for a pair jeans, at least for me) was put on sale and it was at  50% off! Hoooray! From P3,000+ I got it for P1,000+ and it had my size, so it was really meant for me. LOL! Will feature it on one outfitey post soon! Am I being such a teaser? Yes, yes I am. 😉

So if I were you right after reading this, I’d run to a Mango store near you. Yes, now na!

*Sale runs until supplies last*

Enjoy ladies! I hope you get a steal from Mango’s mid-year sale for 2011. 😉

Have a great long-weekend everyone! 😉

Today’s Outfitey: Espadrilles

Posted on

This outftey post is brought to us by my friendship Ms. C (as I fondly call her). I’ve known her via Twitter and after a few conversations, we hit it off. It is indeed true that birds with the same feather like the same weather! eeerrr I mean fly together! LOL

Living in the beautiful state of California, C who is a devoted wife and mother of two awesome kids still manages to look great despite her busy schedule (you should tweet her up to know her secrets! 😉 ). Her style is very laid back relaxed but well-put together. I think we both agree that less is more (right C?) and that it pays to make even a little effort in putting your outfitey together to look good and feel good, thus benefiting not only yourself but your family as well. You know what they say, a happy wife (and mom too) makes a happy life.

Anyway, the key piece for today’s outfitey is espadrilles. I don’t think espadrilles come and go in the fashion industry, I think their staple shoes, one that is classy and never gets out of style. For moms, our priority is always comfort above everything else and being able to incorporate style in it is just a bonus.

color pop!

a ray of sunshine on your feet!

citrus-y love!

I love how a simple look can be transformed into a vibrant one! Again as I always say, perk up your outfitey with colors! If you feel you’re not ready for an all-out color blocking, start with your feet or hands. Wear shoes or carry a bag that has a stand out color, contrary to your clothes. It can just perk up your look and once your look is all giddy, you’ll eventually find yourself being perky & happy as well. You know what they say, you are what you eat and I believe you are what you wear as well. 🙂 (okay this post definitely has a lot of sayings! LOL)

Blue collared shirt – Unknown (tag cut years ago)
Grey and white striped cotton-rayon top – Gap
Off white skinny jeans – Zara

Thanks again Ms. C for letting me feature you in my blog. Looking forward for more outfitey posts! 😀

That’s all!
